On the 20th of March 2004 the Māori Education Trust was among the key sponsors involved in bringing about the Māori Media Awards in Rotorua. The Māori Media Awards recognised the achievements of Māori radio and awarded key people for their excellence.

The event was also co-produced by the General Manager of the Trust and Monty Morrison of Creating Moments of Magic.
