The Stirling Trophy was presented in 1991 by Te Keepa and Pani Stirling as a memorial to their sons, George, Te Keepa and Hamiora, who dedicated their lives to Te Reo Māori. It is a carved waka huia, awarded to the student who gains the highest marks in the impromptu section of the Pei Te Hurinui Jones (Senior Māori) contest.
